Generational Theft

Despite all that the politicians who support this enormous “stimulus” package have guaranteed and promised, the current generation will not be the ones most affected by it. It will be those currently without representation, those with almost no-one sticking up for them in the current congress, the effects will be felt most by the next generation, my generation. Perhaps this will create jobs for now and, who knows, it may even get us out of the current recession, but I can guarantee you that even if this occurs its long lasting effects upon the future will not be positive ones.

This stimulus package alone costs about $750,000,000 and this does not include the earlier recovery package passed by former president George W Bush. If you were to include interest this number would easily reach over a trillion dollars. Now this may sound all fine and dandy for now but it is the next generation who will be footing the bill.

This is all simply outrageous. The fact that, clearly, no one who voted in favor of this bill even paused to think about who would pay for it shows their lack of foresight. Congress and President Obama are stealing, yes flat out stealing, from our generation for the benefit of their own. I believe that Senator McCain put it best when he referred to this bill as generational theft.

I hope this works, I really do, but at the best all I can see it doing is helping out in the short term, and hurting in the long term. To add to all this there are plenty of rumors going around that this isn’t the end of the spending, that there may be yet another “stimulus” to come. I truly hope that, if this second stimulus does come about, the American people and their representatives in Washington take a difference stance on it then the most recent one. Otherwise there will be an even larger burden to be placed upon the shoulders of my generation.

A Welcome

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

A welcome to all those who choose to view my blog. I am currently a 14 year old boy living in St. Louis Missouri and a freshman in high school. I am starting this blog because it is my belief that the views of the youth are under represented. In addition I find that many politicians are taking little notice of the future generations such as mine, instead focusing entirely upon the current ones with no true goals except getting re-elected. One of the most startling examples of this is this new spending package which I shall focus upon in my first true post here.

I will update as much as I possibly can, focusing upon a broad array of topics. The single common thread between these is that, as stated above, they will be from the view point of an American teen living a semi-typical life.
